Juliana Sloan Mills, age 32, of Longwood, FL passed away on Monday, October 25, 2021 at AdventHealth Hospice Care in Winter Park, FL.
Juliana, together with her identical twin sister Karina, was born on August 2, 1989 in Orlando, FL, to parents Timothy Mills and Rosemary (Quinlivan) Mills. Also welcoming the new siblings was their 14-month older sister, Jessica. Juliana was a joyful child who danced, took karate, skated, played soccer, and could light up any room. She became passionate about the french horn in middle school, continuing throughout high school and college, and eventually volunteering for various community bands. Still playing the french horn after twenty years, she was most recently rehearsing for the upcoming Symphonic Disney: The Most Magical Music on Earth to be presented by the Central Florida Community Arts Symphonic Orchestra November 4 and 5th at Northland Church in Longwood, FL
Julie began traveling the world as a child and has friends and memories from points around the globe; most notably Australia, Sweden and Ecuador. Her home base was Longwood, FL, but she lived briefly in Gainesville, FL, outside Ann Arbor, MI, and was in the process of moving to Chicago.
In May 2013, she earned a Bachelor of Design from the University of Florida College of Design, Construction and Planning, and became state certified in Interior Design in 2019. Since 2015 she practiced with Baker Barrios Architects, Inc. headquartered in Orlando, where she also organized various community and charitable events.
In May 2017 Juliana was diagnosed with Small Cell Carcinoma of the Ovary – Hypercalcemic Type becoming one of only about 300 young women then known to have had the disease worldwide. With each new incursion, a plan was developed by the team at Orlando Health, and Juliana sought outside opinions from others including MD Anderson (Houston), NY Langone (New York), and Northwestern Medical (Chicago). She enthusiastically participated in Orlando Health's Arts in Medicine program where she created artwork and made lasting friendships. Strong but disabling chemo, the latest and greatest immunotherapies, alignment of mind/body, careful diet, and a network of unparalleled friends kept hope alive with each new blow. She was sent home on hospice only five days before her death.
Juliana is survived by her mother, Rosemary Mills of Longwood, FL; her father, Timothy Mills of Melbourne, FL; two sisters, Jessica Mills and Karina Mills, both of Longwood, FL; her maternal grandmother, Faye E Quinlivan of Longwood, FL; and her beloved niece, Lucy Mills.
