Daniel was born in Pueblo, Colorado, July 27, 1952 to Daniel Tamez and Anna Abeyta Tamez. Raised in Trinidad, Colorado, he graduated from Trinidad State College with his degree in Engineering. Dan was proud to be a 45 year employee of Lockheed Martin Corporation. Early in his career he was based in the Minneapolis MN area. He traveled the country extensively, installing and maintaining air traffic control equipment. He settled in Tarpon Springs, FL in the Tampa Bay area in the early 1980's, where he continued his career at Lockheed's Oldsmar facility. Dan retired in 2018, after which he moved to Chuluota, FL.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Daniel Tamez and Anna Tamez Madrid, his brothers John Tamez and Phillip Tamez (Debbie), his sister Carmen Valdez (Leroy), his best friend and hunting buddy Wayne Nichols (Cindy), and his four-legged fishing companions Bubba and Chip.
Dan found his peace in the outdoors. Growing up, he felt a special connection to the Sangre de Cristo mountains of Southern Colorado, where he spent many weekends camping, fishing, hunting and being close to nature. He never lost his love for the outdoors, continuing to pursue those activities whenever he could. He enjoyed cooking, listening to music from the 60's and 70's, and going to Walt Disney World. He was a skilled knifemaker, enjoying making knives that he would later give away to his favorite people. He deeply loved his family, his Church of the Incarnation family, his many friends and his God.
Dan is survived by his wife, Erin Moore; his stepdaughter Sarah Hultgreen (Ricardo Blanco), the best grandson ever, Caden Blanco, of Oviedo, FL; his mother-in-law Deortha Moore, Oviedo; sister-in-law Kathleen Moore, Ormond Beach; his nephews Will McFetridge and Rue Dean; his brothers Anthony Tamez (Julie), Pueblo, CO; Ronald Tamez, Louisville KY, and Raymond Tamez (Rosalie), Pueblo CO, sisters Cynthia Trujillo (Richard), Ponca City OK; Lorraine Tamez, Trinidad CO, Rosemarie Wells (John), Trinidad CO, and Angelica Tamez, Pueblo CO, along with many precious nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.
A Celebration of Life will be taking place on:
December 31, 2023, 2:00 pm Church of the Incarnation, 1601 Alafaya Trail, Oviedo FL 32766, with the Reverend Tom Phillips and the Reverend Canon Josh Bales, officiants
A private interment will be held on a later date at Heartwood Preserve, Trinity Florida.
