A. Dale Brown

July 19, 1931 — March 4, 2025

Orlando

Dale Brown, devoted husband and loving father and grandfather, passed away on March 4, 2025, at the age of 93.

Dale was born in Sparta, Missouri on July 19, 1931, to Novella (Workman) Brown West and Clifford Brown. A proud Missouri State graduate with a degree in Economics, he was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon (TKE) Fraternity. Following college, Dale initially worked for Motorola Communications and Electronics. His career in electronics sales spanned decades and upon retirement, he last served as national sales manager for AMP Inc., now part of Tyco International. Dale traveled to all 50 states during his employment, often accompanied by his wife Pat, whom he married on August 31, 1957.

Having lived in some colder climates, Dale and Pat were eager to move to Orlando with their two daughters in 1969. While Orlando became their permanent home, they were bitten by “the travel bug” and blessed to ultimately visit 86 countries. An excursion to Antarctica achieved their goal of visiting all seven continents. They were worldwide cruisers, with Dale joking that their favorite Princess Cruise Line’s complimentary dry cleaning earned was actually the most expensive to be found anywhere.

Dale also traveled while in the Navy. He’d tell colorful stories about his time in Bermuda. A veteran of the Korean War, he served in Patrol Squadron VP-49 operating various types of airborne anti-submarine electronics aboard a Martin P5M Marlin seaplane. For his eightieth birthday, he took the family to the National Naval Aviation Museum in Pensacola to view “the aircraft destined to be the last flying boat operated by the Navy”. All enjoyed watching the museum docents hang on Dale’s every word as someone who’d actually flown on the plane in wartime. Dale was a member of both the American Legion’s Forty & Eight and Pine Castle Post 286. In addition, he was a Kentucky Colonel.

While at home, Dale was a member of Pine Castle Masonic Lodge 368 and Bahia Shrine. He served as an usher and member of the personnel committee at First Baptist Pine Castle (now Generations Church). Dale also volunteered delivering Meals on Wheels. He drove to many a game and practice for grandson Kevin, who played baseball through college and was allegedly to buy him a golf course someday. Grandson Hoyt is a writer pursuing a master’s degree, and Dale loved bragging on his grandchildren and their scholarships. Dale was an avid newspaper reader and Orlando Magic fan. In his younger years, Dale golfed frequently at Errol Estates Country Club, where he and his buddies teed off nine holes in the wee hours to avoid ever having to play behind others. Family members gifted many yellow golf balls for this expressed purpose.

Dale will be remembered for his love of family and sports, his sense of humor, and his intelligence and work ethic. He is survived by his wife Pat Brown, Orlando FL; daughters Nancy King, Orlando, FL, and Sally Bankston (Hoyt, Jr.), Chuluota, FL; and grandchildren Kevin King, Raleigh, NC, and Hoyt Bankston, III, Chuluota, FL.

Memorial services will be held at a later date. Information will be posted here when services have been arranged.
