Mrs. Abigail (Abby) Montalvo, age 88, of Orlando, Florida passed away on Sunday, October 1, 2023 at her home in Orlando.
She was born on February 15, 1935 in Guayanilla, PR, daughter to her late parents, Ramon Montalvo and Braulia Martinez.
Abby is survived by her beloved husband of 63 years, Jose T. Montalvo; her son, Jose (Joey) Montalvo and his wife, Catherine, of Winter Springs, FL; two daughters, Lourdes Montalvo of St. Cloud, and Ruth Shaw of Orlando; three grandchildren, Megan Wells, Christopher Shaw, and Jennifer Santos; three great-grandchildren, Luna Shaw, Ashlynn Ryan, and Jackson Ryan; and her brother, Ramon Montalvo.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her sister, Rosin Montalvo.
Abby and Joe were married in June of 1960 in Ponce, Puerto Rico. As a newly married couple they decided to move to Passaic, NJ. Joe found employment quickly and Abby started babysitting. During that time, they had 3 children who were born and raised in Passaic. Once their kids started school, Abby found employment working as seamstress. She taught her children many things, but one of the most important lesson was to always see the good in people. As their kids grew up and left the nest, they planned for their retirement. In April 2002 they decided it was indeed time to retire and head to a warmer climate. So they sold their home in New Jersey and bought a retirement home in Orlando, Florida.
Abby's passion was sewing, especially making beautiful wedding dresses from scratch for new brides. She also enjoyed crocheting along with other arts and crafts. She had an enormous love for plants and flowers. Her favorite flower was roses. And of course she loved babies, it did not matter if it was human, animal and/or plants.
