Today we celebrate the life of my mother Adriana Galarza. She was burn in Juana Diaz, Puerto Rico April 3, 1933 and left for the heavens Jan 22, 2021.
A 30 year resident of Casselberry, FL she is survived by her daughters Delvin Ivonne Soto, Janet Maldonado, son-in-law Pedro Soto, her grandson Peter Soto, and many special nieces and nephews.
We were lucky enough to have her in our life for 87 years, and grateful for every one of those years.
She guided me, my sisters, and my nephew through life with compassion, wisdom, and humor, because those things were what encapsulated who she was.
Mom was a seamstress her whole life and she loved the many years she worked with Merisel. In New York, she worked in the garment district until we moved to Cleveland in 1975. She continued working sewing as it was what made her happy. She retired to take care of dad when he was sick with cancer 13 years ago and was by his side until he passed in 2009.
Today the heavens celebrate as my parents are reunited and can dance together again. I remember when they met in Cleveland in 1975 saying "What did that little man think since she was not looking for a boyfriend." They were married 5 months later and were married for 33 years. He was the love of her life,
We did not always love it when my mom used her "therapist voice" on us and her many nieces & nephews, but she was always honest with us. Always telling us what we needed to hear and not what we wanted to hear.
My mother had managed to teach me the value of education and hard work. So glad that she was present at all my graduations and she was prouder with every higher level that I achieved.
January – July 2020 we were quarantined and talked about life, dying and so many other things. She told me that she would rather die of COVID-19 then live isolated. We started going out using mask and socially distancing knowing the risk as it was her choice. Mom was a strong person and did things her way. Unfortunately, we were not able to get her vaccinated and she contracted COVID-19 earlier this year. The virus attached her at her most vulnerable areas her lungs and kidneys and her condition worsen quickly. Winter Park Hospital did everything possible to safe her, but God needed her more than we did.
Donations can be made to her favorite charity St. Jude at the Adriana Galarza Memorial Fund.
