Alan Merrill Cooke died at home on March 3 at 9:10 pm in Orlando, FL at the age of 73, after a long battle with pulmonary fibrosis. Alan is survived by his wife Sandra of 53 years and three children; Robin Danna of Apollo Beach, Denise Cooke of Apollo Beach, and Harold Cooke of Orlando. In addition, he was blessed with five grandchildren, Emily, Melody, Angela, Chase, and Hanna. He is also survived by his sister, Connie Cooke of New Jersey; brother, Donald Cooke of Delaware and many nephews and nieces.
Alan was born on June 5, 1943 in Franklin Hospital New Jersey, to the late Merrill and Edith Cooke. Alan graduated with honors, first in his class from the National School of Meat Cutting Toledo Ohio in 1964. Alan married Sandra Banta in 1964, after meeting on a blind date. After moving to Florida in 1982, Alan became a USDA Agriculture Inspector and then began working as a General Contractor.
Alan was a man of many talents who was passionate about life. He was a generous individual who never knew a stranger. He loved and enjoyed animals, gardening, fishing, motorcycles, trains, and stock-car racing. As an avid animal lover, Alan was never without an animal by his side from pigs, crows, cats, dogs, squirrels, doves, ducks, geese and many others too numerous to mention.
The family would like to thank Florida Hospital East nursing staff, Debbie RT, Arshad Rehman MD, Ahmad Kamme MD, Carla Cappadoro ARNP, Mahmood Ali MD, Steve Vu MD for the many years of quality health care. Their care and kindness will always be remembered.
A Celebration of life is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 25 at Railside Lodging, 3742 Main Street, Folkston Georgia 31537, with a reception to follow. Please join us in celebrating the life of Alan Merrill Cooke.
