Albertina D. Hernandez, age 101, of Orlando, Florida passed away on Friday, September 17th, 2021.
She was born in Cuba on August 14th, 1920. An entrepreneur at heart, she owned a canastilla (baby clothing) store with her husband until they had to leave the island due to the communist regime. Leaving everything behind, she immigrated with her family to the United States as part of the "freedom flights" program in 1969 and made Union City, NJ their new home until they moved to Orlando, FL in 1980.
Albertina loved to sew and created some beautiful pieces in her lifetime, her specialty was little girl dresses.. the quality and attention to detail was simply magnificent. Although she left her country and extended family behind, she consistently made it a point to keep in touch with them and help them along the way. Even though she held various roles throughout her life, she always prioritized taking care of her family. She was a loving wife and caring mother...a true Leo with a feisty spirit and a funny sense of humor. She had a love of sweets and would enjoy a libation from time to time. She was Catholic by her faith, and raised her children to be Catholics as well. She was active and enthusiastic about life in her younger years.
Albertina is survived by her husband of 69 years Sergio D. Hernandez; sons Sergio A. Hernandez and his wife Sheri and Daniel L. Hernandez and his wife Yenni, 5 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren as well as nieces and nephews.
