Alexander J. Cichocki

August 30, 1938 — September 2, 2020

Alexander "Al" Cichocki, 82, of Orlando, Florida, passed away on Wednesday, September 2, 2020.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Iris Jean Cichocki; his parents John and Eleanor Cichocki; his grandson, Nick Smith; his sister, Rosemarie Adams; and his brother-in-law, Donald Adams.

Al is survived by his daughters, Linda (Ricky) Swift of Murray, Kentucky, Lisa (Barry) Porter of Windermere, Florida, Belinda Griffith of Orlando, Florida, and Bobbie McGraw of Orlando, Florida; and his grandchildren, Kenneth Coffee, Phillip (Steph) Griffith, Jessica Swift, Corey Rice, Jessie McGraw, Courtney (Emmett) Browning, and Whitney Porter; his six great-grandchildren; and his former wife, Janet Woods.

In 1958, Al and Janet moved from Detroit, Michigan to San Diego, California to work for the ITT Corporation (Convair Astronautics), which was cut short when he was drafted into the United States Air Force in 1960. Once he was drafted, the Air Force would take Al to San Antonio, Texas, and eventually Patrick Air Force Base in Brevard County, Florida to work on the Atlas Missile project. In 1964, he was hired by NASA and was able to continue his work with the Atlas Missile program, as a Missile Quality Control Specialist, where he was in charge of all the shuttle payloads. He left NASA to go to work for Boeing, and retired from McDonnell Douglas in 2010.

Al will be remembered for always smiling, being happy, and most of all, being kind to everyone. He enjoyed furthering his education by taking college courses to stay current in his field, and while he was incredibly intelligent, he preferred to keep his life simple and easy. He always worked hard for his family; he was always there for his daughters when they needed him. If anyone ever needed anything, Al would always do his best to help where he could.

In lieu of flowers, Al's family ask that donations be made in his name to the American Heart Association.
