Alexandria Hayes (nee Trakas), formerly of Jersey City, NJ, passed away peacefully on April 27 in Orlando, FL at the age of 83, surrounded by her loving family.
Born October 16, 1924 in New London, CT to the late James and Payona Trakas of Sparta, Greece, Alex moved to Jersey City, NJ as a young girl.
Devoted to childhood education, Alex touched the lives of her students in Our Lady of Sorrows, Our Lady of Victories, and St. Paul's School as an elementary school teacher, and in later years as a teacher's aide in Public School No. 34 and St. Peter's School in Jersey City, NJ.
After retiring to Florida in 1983, Alex lived a joyful life watching her grandchildren grow, taking cruises, painting, laughing and bringing a smile to everyone she met. She had many friends, was a devout Catholic and loved anything pink!
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joseph R. Hayes.
Alex was a warm, loving and devoted mother to three daughters, Theodora Long of Miami, FL; Patricia Hayes of Bayonne, NJ; and Veronica Aasnes of Orlando, FL. She completely adored her four grandchildren, Justin and Barrett Long and Shane and Chelsea Aasnes. She was the cherished sister of George Trakas of San Marcos, CA; Thalia Duclos of Lakeland, FL; and the late Nicholas Trakas.

Arrangements were handled by Newcomer Funeral Home, Orlando, FL. A memorial Mass will be said at St. Joseph's Church, Pavonia Avenue, Jersey City, NJ. Interment will follow at Arlington Cemetery, Kearny, NJ.
