Alfred Walton Hill, 86 of Winter Park, Florida passed away Sunday, Nov. 26, 2006. Born in Huntington, Indiana, he moved to Central Florida in 1967. He was retired as Lt. Colonel from the United States Air Force after 25 years of service having served in World War II as a B-24 Bomber Pilot.
Alfred was proud of his military career during which he traveled widely and met a number of celebrities and dignitaries. His involvement in the Cuban Crisis in 1962 was a particular source of pride.
But perhaps his greatest accomplishment was his single-minded devotion to his wife and family. Several months before retiring from the military, his wife, Peggy, was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. Her illness was severe, leaving her completely dependent within four years. Alfred never wavered in his devotion and care for Peggy, from her diagnosis in 1967, until her death in 1999. Their commitment and love for one another was an example for all who knew them.
He is survived by his daughter, Marta H. Ditch of Orlando; son, Alan A. Hill of Winter Park; sisters, Doris Frantz and Opal Gray both of Sidney, IN; grandchildren, Jennifer Wellons and Joshua Ditch; great grandchildren, Katrina, Natalie and Abigail Wellons.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Hill in 1999.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, Nov. 30th in the Chapel of Newcomer Family Funeral Home, 895 S. Goldenrod Rd. Orlando. Services and interment will be held in South Whitley, IN.
