Alice Blakeslee

BLAKESLEE, ALICE INGLIS CAREY, 98, died on Wednesday,
April 12, at her home at the Mayflower Retirement
Community in Winter Park, FL. The daughter of Dr.
Harry K. and Constance Beddoe Carey, she was born,
raised, and resided for much of her life in the
Philadelphia area. She studied Art at the Pennsylvania
Academy at Chester Springs. She was married to the
late Capt. (USN) Horace W. Blakeslee for 56 years.
Surviving her are her children, William Blakeslee,
Alice Allen, and Elizabeth Barger. She has 11
grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
Alice was an accomplished artist, librarian, world
traveler, and Navy wife. She enjoyed music, reading,
needlework, sailing, and crossword puzzles, among many
other interests.
A memorial service will be held at the Mayflower on
Monday, April 17 at 2pm. Newcomer Family Funeral
Service is handling the funeral arrangements. Burial
will be on Thursday, May 11 at 11am in Arlington
National Cemetery beside her husband.
