Ann Chan, age 74, of Orlando, FL, passed away on August 19th, 2023 peacefully at home with her family. She is survived by her loving husband of 46 years, Shiu Chan, MD; and sons Alan Chan, MD, and Patrick Chan, MD; their spouses; and a handful of beautiful grandchildren. She is also survived by an older sister, Chau Cheung, in New York City.
Ann arrived as an immigrant to this country with limited resources; with unwavering will she graduated college at the University of Bridgeport. She subsequently moved to New York City, where she met her husband. Ann moved to Cleveland, OH and eventually settled in Hazard, KY for several decades raising two accomplished children and keeping the family tidy, fed, and healthy. She was a quiet person, but dedicated her life to helping the family succeed. Ann was active in volunteering at the local school and at the hospital. Always innovative in self-study, she taught herself to knit, sew, sketch, and
masterfully crafted Chinese dishes at a time where Asian ingredients were not readily available in rural Kentucky. She took pride in her handiwork which included outfits, Halloween costumes that gave her kids lasting memories, and the ceramic floor tiles she installed on the stairwell to the garage. In her leisure time, she enjoyed watching TV soap operas and Chinese movies that her sister mailed to her in bulky VHS tapes. She also welcomed traveling and cruises from Florida.
Ann bravely overcame colon cancer, but unfortunately was diagnosed with a rare form of Parkinson's Disease, which she courageously fought for at least eight debilitating years.
Her family would like to thank Dr. Ramon Rodriguez at Neurology One for diagnosing her particularly rare disease, and Cornerstone Hospice for their wonderful care.
At this time, there is no memorial service planned.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to
Cure PSP or the
Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research in her name.
