Ann Dyson Grimm (October 31, 1929-December 11, 2024). 95 years young. Born in New Britain, Connecticut to Sturman and Priscilla Dyson. Younger sister of Sturman Jr. Ann is a graduate of Colby-Sawyer College and the University of Hartford Art School.
In 1950, Ann married Glenn Edward Grimm (1925-2013) of Chicago, Illinois. That same year they moved to Toronto, Ontario where they lived for 30 years. Setting up house in suburban Etobicoke, Ann and Glenn produced 5 children: Peter, Susan, Anabel, Jonathan, and Timothy.
While in Canada, Ann pursued her passion for painting. She was a member of the Humber Valley Art Association (1952-1980) and the Ontario Society of Artists (1974-1980). Ann won numerous awards for her work including "Best Oil" - Carling Annual Exhibition (1975) and the "Collector's Choice Award - O.S.A. (1979). She was also a member of the Society of Canadian Artists (1978-1980).
In 1980, Ann and Glenn returned to New Britain where she became a member of the Mystic Art Association (1982-2013) and the Connecticut Academy of Fine Arts (1988-2013). Her awards included "Best In Show" - New Britain Museum of American Art (1982), "Best Acrylic In Show" - Mystic Art Association (1989), and "Juror's Choice First Prize" - West Hartford Art League (1992). Ann was a long time volunteer and docent at the New Britain Museum of American Art and the museum holds an original Ann Grimm painting in it's permanent collection. Ann had the great honor of having one of her paintings hang in the Washington D.C. Congressional Office of U.S. Representative Nancy Johnson (R-Conn.) during her term in office.
Ann leaves behind 6 grandchildren: Jeremy, Sarah, Leigh, Lauren, Hilary, and Nolan; and 3 great grandchildren: Kali, Declan, and Edie. Mother-in-law to Bruce, Brenda, James, and Elizabeth.
Loving wife and mother, fabulous cook, accomplished artist, animal lover, pianist, community volunteer, member of the choir at Humber Valley United Church. Ann was much loved and will be missed by relatives and friends in the United States and Canada. We are truly blessed to have had Ann Dyson Grimm in our lives.
