Anne Leibowitz, 94, of Orlando, FL, passed away Monday, February 10, 2025 at Harmony Retirement Community of Hope Mills, North Carolina. She was born on June 15, 1930 in Piqua, Ohio to Louis and Pauline Gabel.
Anne grew up in a small town in Ohio. She went to Ohio State for her undergraduate degree. Then she moved to Washington DC for work and met Sy on a blind date arranged by mutual friends. They married on June 5, 1954 in Arizona and eventually settled in Orlando, FL. She was married to Sy for 60 years. Together they raised 3 sons.
Anne worked as a CPA for the Department of Revenue in Florida. She was the first woman in her office to be an audit group supervisor and excelled in her work. She loved hospitality (her home had a revolving door-- luncheons, dinners, plus giving many of us tours of Disney). She also loved fine arts (served as a docent for Morse Museum), her P.E.O. Sisterhood (served as treasurer for many years), and traveling the world with Sy after his retirement. She was gifted in so many ways, faithfully serving her family and friends and loving them with great devotion.
Her husband, Sy, preceded her in death on July 25, 2014. Anne was also preceded in death by her brother, Edward, and her son, Keith. Surviving are her sister, Lynn Pistilli; brothers, David (Kim) Gabel, Paul (Joann) Gabel, Dan (former wife, Sheila) Gabel; and children, Dean (former wife, Bobbi) Leibowitz of Orlando, FL, and Jack (Judy) Leibowitz of Hong Kong; 3 grandchildren, Lindsey (Bobby) Mims, John (Jackie) Leibowitz, and Jeanie (Adrian) Zhang; and 6 great- grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held for family and friends to celebrate her life on Saturday, March 1, 2025, 10 am at Newcomer Orlando, 3806 Howell Branch RD, Winter Park, FL 32792.
