On January 29, 2018 Aster lost her three and a half year battle with a stroke.
Aster was born in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. From a young age, Aster lived a life of service helping those less fortunate and spending her free time bettering the lives of others. She walked ten days out of Communist held Ethiopia to Djibouti before moving to live with her sister in Cairo, Egypt where she met her husband Jerry. They married in 1987 and moved to Hampton, Virginia where their first son Jason was born. She proudly earned her U.S. Citizenship in 1992. Their second son Joseph was born in 1993. After living in Pakistan, Thailand, and Bolivia, their third son Joshua was born in 2001.
She was a devoted wife and dedicated mother to her three boys. She volunteered at all of their schools, scouting programs, was a sports mom, and made sure the boys were brought up properly. Everything she enjoyed revolved around her children.
Aster is survived by her husband Jerry, children: Jason, Joseph, and Joshua, mother Tsigi Teklu, father Abebe Abate, sisters: Elsa, Tsion, Tutu, brothers: Kirubel, Surafel, Mengistu, Berhanu, Fanuel.
