Barbara M. Sturgill, age 94. of Lake Mary went to be with her savior on December 1st , 2020. Born August 24, 1926 in the small town of Konnarock, VA.
to Roy and Beulah Shomate, Barbara became a resident of Longwood in 1957 ( long before the days of I-4).Barbara grew up in that small town during the Great Depression where she learned lessons that would help her throughout her lifetime. She was the only girl in the family and had to learn very early to be resourceful. She married her only soulmate, Harley on June 1, 1946.The blessed union lasted 73years until Harley passed away last year. She was a devout Christian wife and mother and raised her family to love the Lord.
Barbara was a homemaker, a great Mom and Grandmother. She always enjoyed the simple things in life, taking care of the household, her husband and her children was always her priority. Her cooking was legendary. She made sure nobody left the table hungry. With items such as her 1-2-3-4 cake peanut butter fudge and her preserves nobody wanted to leave the table. There were cakes on the weekends, Dads favorite sausage and biscuits on Saturday nights and we cant forget her pinto beans and cornbread.
She was what she was and was not pretentious. She always made her family feel loved and wanted. She set a great example for her family that includes her four children, sons Nelson ( Kathy), Richard ( Jeannie) Doug, and daughter Ann ( Eric). She simply adored her 11 Grandchildren and her 17 Great -grandchildren. Her loving spirit will endure for generations.
