On Tuesday, March 16, 2021, Beatrice B. Prickett (Bea), passed away at the age of 94 after succumbing to the effects of pneumonia and sepsis. She was born Beatrice Elizabeth Barber on May 2, 1926 in Mt. Holly, New Jersey. She graduated from Mt. Holly High School and spent a short time as a candy striper in the local hospital. After High School, she worked as a bank teller on a full- and part-time basis. She married Kenneth M. Prickett on March 10, 1951, and they eventually moved to Burlington Township, NJ where they raised their two sons, Chris and Jeffrey.
Beatrice was a devoted mother, bookkeeper for Kenneth's business, and a very good and, sometimes, adventurous cook, even presenting escargot to her young sons, something they both loved.
During summer weekends, she would pack up her sons, dog, cat, and sometimes, the younger son's turtles that he found while exploring the nearby woods, and head to their home in Surf City, NJ on Long Beach Island. It was a great time with friends and time spent boating, fishing, crabbing, water skiing, swimming and sunbathing. She greatly enjoyed their weekends at the Jersey shore, especially when friends were visiting, which was often.
She was proud of her red hair, even after it turned gray, and used it to humorously explain her occasional expressions of temper. Mostly, her focus was on her sons and granddaughters, who provided much joy.
After retirement, she and Kenneth moved to Stuart, FL and, with their dog, would travel by motorhome throughout North America. They greatly enjoyed their time on the road, especially when accompanied by their two granddaughters, Heather and Rachel. Finding kindred spirits with fellow RVers, they moved to The Great Outdoors RV Resort in Titusville, FL where they resided for over 20 years. They then moved to Lake Mary, FL and, after the passing of Kenneth, she moved to Winter Park, FL to be closer to Jeffrey. While her last year of life was difficult due to failing health and the impact of isolation imposed by COVID-19, she was blessed to have good care. She was grateful to those who provided that care.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Kenneth Martin Prickett, who passed away on the same date three years earlier, her elder son Chris (2010) and brother George (2008). She is survived by her younger son, Jeffrey (Linda); granddaughters Heather Hearon (Richard) and Rachel Prickett; great-grandson, Anthony; and sister-in-law, Rita.
Arrangements are entrusted to Newcomer Funeral Home, 3806 Howell Branch Road, Winter Park, FL 32792.
