HUENE, BENEDICT H., of Winter Park departed this life to be with his Beloved wife of 44 years, Marcella on Saturday, Feb. 12, 2005 after a long battle with Alzheimers disease. Ben was born on January 3, 1920 in Bartelso, IL to Edward and Eugenia Huene. He was a founding member of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Ben was a veteran of World War II where he served on the aircraft carrier USS BOUGE in the battle of the Atlantic. Later he served in the Korean War aboard the USS BON HOMME RICHARD. This is where he was instrumental in correcting a serious aircraft carrier hydraulic landing gear design flaw. He worked in Civil Service for 35 years as a procurement specialist. After retiring, he worked at S.A.I.C. in Orlando for 5 years.
Ben Huene was a big man with a big heart, who was always ready to lend a hand to those in need. His gentle, benevolent nature made him well loved by all who knew him. Always "tinkering" in his garage, he had a special knack of inventing things before their time for his personal use.
Survivors include seven children, Debra Huene Wier of Windermere, Daniel (Terri) Huene of Hickory, N.C.,Steven (Delores) Huene of N. Charleston, S.C., Michael Huene of N. Charleston, S.C., Donna (Stewart) Sweek of Orlando, Susan (Clay) Mitchell of Oviedo, Mary Levesque of Orlando and his eight adored granddaughters.
