Bernard Cylc

May 18, 1968 — June 25, 2016

Bernard Peter Cylc, 48, departed this life unexpectedly in his home on Saturday, June 25, 2016. Bernie was born on May 18, 1968 in Philadelphia, PA to the late Bernard J. Cylc and Rita M. Kleinschmidt. He leaves unforgettable memories to be cherished by his beloved wife, Karen; his adored sons, Andrew and Alexander; siblings, Carol, Liz, Donna, Joe, and John; many nephews and nieces; along with extended family and friends throughout the country. He was preceded in death by his sister, Bernadette. Bernie was truly one-of-a-kind. With a flowing sense of humor and contagious smile, his laughter could be heard in any situation. He will be remembered as an honorable and faithful Christian and family man who truly appreciated the gift of life. He earned Bachelor of Arts degrees from Florida State University in computer science and mathematics; and later served in the US Navy on the USS Independence. He was married in 2005 to Karen Huff Cylc and they had two cherished boys. As a family, they often spent days making memories at theme parks, library events, and museums , or simply camping, playing at the beach, or hiking nature trails. Everyone recognized Bernie's passion as the ultimate Philadelphia Eagles' fan. He also excelled as a poker player, chess player, bowler, speed reader, family bartender, karaoke singer, unicycle rider, movie buff, extreme couponer, and a trivia king. Living his life to the fullest, there was nothing Bernie wouldn't try. He was admired by many and was fortunate to be exceptional, at mostly everything he tried.Throughout the years, Bernie held many positions in the Computer Science industry, most recently serving as a Senior Programmer Analyst for Aon Hewitt, where he worked devotedly for fifteen years. Bernie was an active member of Mensa, Toastmasters, and two Running Clubs. He was a talented musician, who could easily play songs by ear on piano, guitar, ukulele, and harmonica; never hesitating from a chance to serenade his family in public. At home, he enjoyed teaching, playing, and dancing with his kids; spoiling his pets, building homemade inventions, and bird watching. As at home, Bernie was just as comfortable traveling, living in four different states, with his family. Never one to dodge a challenge, Bernie quickly learned the lay of the land, building his own homestead out west, just for the chance to experience it. Bernie will be dearly missed and will remain forever in our hearts; comforted by the fact that his genius lives on in the creative spirits of his boys. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Bernie to: www.gofundme.com/2brmzkmc (Established by Randy Smith and colleagues/friends at Aon Hewitt). Family will greet friends on Saturday, July 9th from 11AM at Newcomer Funeral Home, Orlando with funeral services at 12PM. A luncheon to celebrate Bernie's life will be held at Wedgefield Golf Club (20550 Maxim Parkway, Orlando 32833) will follow at 2PM. Inurnment with military honors will take place at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL where Bernie will be laid to rest, in a private ceremony, at a later date.
