Bernice Waddell (Ruffin), age 98, died peacefully on August 23rd, 2017 at Hospice of the Comforter in Altamonte Springs, FL.
Bernice married Reverend James Waddell (deceased), and is survived by her children and their spouses James Ron and Marina Waddell, Janice and Edward Seeney, Jeanie and Orlando Cardenas, Joseph Waddell, Joan Young (deceased) and James Young.
Also survived by her grandchildren James Terrance Young, Tara Young, Torin Waddell, Jamie Kennedy, Sha'Ron, LaTanya and Tasha Waddell, Euri, Gerson and Perla Waddell.
Bernice had one other child who is deceased, Joan Ann Waddell (Young).
Bernice is survived by 10 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 2 great, great grandchildren.
Bernice is also survived by four sister-in-laws, one brother-in-law and many nieces and nephews.
Bernice is also survived by her adopted son Don Mitchell.
Bernice was born on December 24th, 1918, to parents Norman Perry and Lillian Ruffin in Gates, NC.
Bernice had 2 siblings who are deceased, Chester Clemment Ruffin and Cesar Collins.
After the death of her husband, Bernice moved to Orlando, FL where she enjoyed reading and reciting poetry with her many friends.
Growing up on a farm in Gates, North Carolina with her sister and brother made Bernice tough and she learned the meaning of hard work, ethical conduct, honor and respect for everyone.
Most importantly, these characteristics were instilled in her children and this is the legacy she leaves behind.
Life was not easy for Bernice's family, but they always had hope and love for family.
There was never a dull moment in the Waddell house.
Bernice made huge Sunday meals and apple pies, peach pies and sweet potato pies.
And we won't forget the chocolate and coconut cakes, that we all loved.
Bernice was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and Christian woman.
Bernice was loved by her family and friends and all who knew her, she will be missed.
A celebration of life funeral is scheduled for Bernice Waddell on Thursday August 31st, 2017 at 11am with visitation before from 10am to 11am.
A viewing will take place on Wednesday August 30th, 2017 at 6pm until 9pm.
All are welcome to attend the celebration of life funeral at Newcomer Funeral Home located at 895 S. Goldenrod Rd., Orlando, FL.
