Berta Arroyo, 92, of Orlando, Florida passed away at Orlando Lutheran Towers on June 2, 2019. She was born in Ponce, Puerto Rico on June 2, 1927 to Francisco and Maria Garcia.
Berta married her husband, Julio, in Puerto Rico when she was 17 years old. They moved to New York in 1951, before moving to Florida. Berta enjoyed gardening, growing flowers and medicinal plants. She also loved being in the kitchen; everyone loved her pastilles and rice pudding. Devoting herself to God, Berta selflessly spent her time reading her Bible and singing His praises. She loved special occasions, bringing her family together for birthdays, holidays, and reunions. Berta was a Certified Nurses' Assistant, working mostly with the elderly, showing the same love and compassion she would show to her own family.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Julio Arroyo; her parents, Francisco and Maria Garcia; and her daughters, Maria Arroyo and Ruth Bermudez.
Berta is survived by her children, Julio Arroyo, Luz Silva, Edwin (Melida) Arroyo, Alfred (Bertha) Arroyo, Evelyn (Manuel) Castellano, Elizabeth (Curtis) Parker, Daniel (Aecha) Arroyo, and Isaac (Judy) Arroyo; her brother, Paco Garcia; and her sister, Carmen. Berta is also survived by many loving grandchildren, great granchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
A visitation will take place on Wednesday, June 5, 2019 from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home - East Orlando Chapel. A funeral ceremony will be held at the Orlando Church of Christ on Thursday, June 6 at 9:30 am. Internment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
