Blanca I. (Roman Delgado) Santiago, age 97, of Apopka, FL, passed away on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 in Eustis, FL.
Blanca, the firstborn of fourteen children born to Juan L. Roman and Juana Delgado, was born in Hatillo, Puerto Rico on October 17, 1920. At 23 years of age, she moved to Brooklyn, NY and lived with her sister, Lydia, at her uncle's home. A few months later, her uncle arranged for her to meet Joseph Santiago and in August 1944 they were married. She bore five children: Mildred, Blanca (d.), Joseph, Abigail and John.
Blanca was a dedicated wife and mother. Her joy was cooking large meals and making sure that everyone at the table ate a lot. That was not difficult because she was a fantastic cook!
As a grandmother, at different times she opened her home to her three grandsons, Sasha, Christopher and Joseph, and developed a close relationship with each one. Her granddaughters, Hannah and Ariel, were far away but on many occasions, beginning when they were newborn, they were able to spend time with Nana. Her greatest joy was to have her grandchildren with her. She already knew about the recent birth of her twin great-grandchildren, Lola Jolene and Marlon Oliver; born to Sasha and Megan. However, she had not had the joy of holding them in her arms.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 9, 2018 at 10:00 am at Newcomer Funeral Home - East Orlando Chapel, 895 S. Goldenrod Rd, Orlando, FL 32822, with Pastor Doug Leady, officiating.
Burial will follow in Chapel Hill Cemetery.
