Booker T. Gipson
Celebration of Life 11/25/1927 - 2/7/2025
Booker Gipson, 97 of Winter Park, FL passed away on Friday, February 7, 2025. Booker was born in Greenville Alabama November 25, 1927 where he attended Friendship and Lomax schools. He went on to serve his country in the Air Force during World War II. While guarding German prisoners of war, Booker was often taunted by them because of his race. He was honorably discharged only to be denied a postwar bonus from Alabama, again, because of his race.
Never to be deterred Booker in 1950 joined The Great Migration and moved his young family to Pittsburgh, PA. There, he started his life’s work in precious metals. He and his wife Nellie joined the Seventh Day Adventist Church where they adopted its healthy lifestyle and God’s Purpose for their lives. Booker served as a deacon and on many committees. Booker always cared for and loved his entire family.
Booker’s self-taught knowledge and many hours of study in the local library, earned him a reputation as an expert in the field of rare and precious metals. Many well known companies sought out his services and expertise. Booker remained humble and determined to chart his own path. With that determination he opened GIPSON & SONS where he and his wife Nellie Gipson employed dozens. They all came to know and respect Booker. If anyone was in need Booker always had a giving heart and would employ them and help them get back on their feet.
After retiring in 2005 Booker moved from Pittsburgh, PA to Winter Park, FL where he enjoyed spending time relaxing outdoors, reading his Bible, nurturing his fig trees, the loving companionship of his wife Nellie and monthly visits from his son Lawrence and his daughter-in-law Barbara.
Booker is preceded in transition by his sisters, Alice Gipson, Minnie Lowry, Leona Carmichael, Ileana Randal, and brothers Brady Morgan, Charles Gipson, James Gipson and Zebbie Gipson.
Booker is survived by his loving wife of 75 years Nellie Gipson, his children Dr. Lawrence Gipson, Howard Lee Gipson, Patricia Hammond. Daughters-in-law Barbara Gipson and Noel Whitesell. Son-in-law James Paczynsk. Grandchildren Jeffrey Gipson, Jessica Bobbins, Emily Folk, Great-Grandchildren Levi Gipson, Sloan Gipson, Blake Gipson, Fiona Bobbins, Simone Bobbins, Ayanna Folk and a host of nieces and nephews.
One of Bookers last sentences “I will meet you in Heaven “ So let it be Lord Jesus! A True Gentleman and Man of God
