Bradley Donald Degler, age 61, passed away on October 20th in Maitland, FL after a long battle with cancer. He passed peacefully in his sleep at home, continuously surrounded by family and loved ones.
Brad was born on April 25th, 1963, in Beech Grove, Indiana to the late Donald and Janet Degler. He graduated Franklin High School in Tennessee in 1981 and went on to double major in Electrical Engineering and Math at Vanderbilt University. After graduating with a Bachelor of Engineering degree in 1985, he started his first job at Texas Instruments in Dallas as an Electrical Engineer. He then moved to Orlando, Florida and began a 35-year career at ECC (now Cubic Defense Systems), eventually attaining the position of Senior Principal Systems Engineer.
It was at Vanderbilt University that he met his wife, Theresa Scotchie, and they married August 6, 1988. After settling in Central Florida, Brad and Theresa had three children: Erin, Matthew, and Alyssa. He worked hard to make sure they were taken care of and felt loved every day.
Over the years Brad traveled the United States and beyond, attended many father-daughter dances and Indian Guide trips, taught all of his children math, and kept many different cars from falling to pieces. He has been a rock to many and has in turn climbed many literal rocks through years of camping and hiking with his family. His loved ones will remember him as a calm ear and patient listener, a brilliant engineer, and few will forget that his laughter was genuine and easy to come by.
Brad was preceded to heaven by his mother and father. He is survived by his wife and mother of his children, Theresa Degler; their children: Erin Degler and husband Daniel Degler, Matthew Degler, and Alyssa Degler; his granddaughter Violet Degler; his sister Stacey Degler; as well as many, many cousins, brother and sister in laws, nieces, and nephews. Brad was a deeply beloved father, uncle, brother, and friend.
A funeral Mass will be held on November 7, 2024 at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church, 861 Maitland Ave, Altamonte Springs, FL 32701, followed by a burial at Queen of Angels Cemetery in Winter Park. The family will receive visitors afterward in the family home. The family wishes to thank the staff of Advent Health Hospice Care for their extraordinary attention to Brad.
