Brian Alan Torres, age 36, of Casselberry, FL, passed away on Friday, August 20, 2021, in Atlanta, GA.
He is survived by his parents Samuel and Norma Jean (Hookway) Torres; sister, Samantha E. (George) Paradis; nephew, Parker; niece, Blaire; grandmother, Betty Hookway; and grandfather, Herman Torres.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Norman Hookway and Nydia Torres.
After graduating from Lake Howell High School in 2003, Brian enlisted in the US Army where he attended Basic Infantry Training at Ft. Benning, GA. Brian then continued on to jump school at Ft. Bragg, NC. Upon completing jump school his unit was deployed to Iraq. Over the next five years, Sgt. Torres received the following awards, medals and ribbons: Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal (2nd award), Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Parachutist Badge, and US Army Basic Recruiter Badge-Silver.
After getting out of the Army in 2008, Brian worked for Warners and US Xpress as a long-distance truck driver for the next two years, before working for Brinks armored security in 2010.
In 2012 Brian studied motorcycle and marine mechanics at MMI in Orlando where he received top tech in Honda engines and top of class for Yamaha, among other awards.
Brian enjoyed truck driving so in 2015 he rejoined the US Xpress team as a long-distance truck driver and was also a trainer and road captain. In April 2019, Brian took a position in Irving, TX, doing classroom training, and in April 2021 was promoted to Senior Driver Development Specialist in Atlanta, GA.
Brian loved riding his Honda Goldwing 40th Anniversary Edition motorcycle. Brian was a Caretakers M.E. Board member, holding the titles of Trustee, Road Captain and rewrote the bylaws for Caretakers, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization that dedicated their time to helping veterans and their families.
Brian enjoyed traveling, computers, video games, and his family and friends.
On July 23, 2021, Brian tested positive for Covid-19. A week later he was admitted to the hospital ICU where he succumbed to complications from Covid pneumonia, with his family at his side.
Visitation is Thursday, September 2, 2021 from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm with funeral service starting at 7:00 pm at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (Winter Park Chapel), 3806 Howell Branch Rd, Winter Park, Florida 32792.
Interment will be on Friday, September 3, 2021 at 2:00 pm at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery, 5525 US-1, Mims, Florida 32754.
