Mr. Bernard John “Bruce” Szwast’s Story

1944-2025

Bernard John “Bruce” Szwast passed away on March 24, 2025, in Orlando, Florida, at the age of 80.

Born on November 17, 1944, in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, Bruce lived a life marked by dedication to our Lord, devotion to his faith, and his beloved bride.

Bruce served honorably in the United States Army for two years, achieving the rank of Corporal. During his military tenure, he was stationed at the Pentagon, a testament to his commitment and capability. Following his military service, Bruce embarked on a successful career as a programmer with Petroleum Software Services. Over the decades, he contributed significantly to the field and was recognized with the prestigious “Customer Dedication Award,” an acknowledgement of his excellence and impact in his profession.

Faith played an important role throughout Bruce’s life, he maintained a strong connection to his church community. Outside of work and worship, Bruce enjoyed spending time outdoors. Golf and fishing were among his favorite pastimes, activities that brought him peace and joy.

Bruce is remembered by those who knew him for the life he shared with his wife of 34 years, Nancy Ann Oliver Szwast. He was the son of Bernard John Szwast and Helen Salamon Szwast. He is also remembered by his siblings: Brothers John Szwast and Richard (Rick) Szwast and Donna Szwast Flickinger.

For those wishing to remember Bruce, there will be a Memorial Service on Saturday, May 3, 2025 at 10 a.m. at Belle Isle Community Church, 731 Fairlane Avenue, Belle Isle, Florida 32809 (407) 438-2700.
