Surrounded by family, Carl went to be with the Lord in his home in Longwood, Florida on September 20. He had recently celebrated his 85th birthday and his 62nd wedding anniversary with his wife, Lois.
Carl was born in Chelsea, Massachusetts, the oldest son of his parents Bill Gold and Margaret Crowley Gold. Ten years later he was joined by his brother Billy. His sister Leisa, who was a wonderful surprise for his parents, was born eight years after that. Despite their age differences, they were all very close and enjoyed being together.
Carl graduated from North Quincy High School where he played football. After graduation he went to Eastern Nazarene College in Quincy, Massachusetts, Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, California and Andover Newton Seminary in Newton, Massachusetts, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Master of Divinity.
Going into full time ministry, Carl led youth groups in California planning engaging Sunday mornings and fun Friday nights including trips to the Rose Bowl and beaches. After relocating back to Massachusetts, he pastored two growing United Church of Christ churches.
After much soul searching, Carl made a career change and became a successful real estate salesman. He was the top development broker with over $1million in sales in 1974. Later he led new construction real estate sales teams for several top companies including US Home, WJ Levitt & Sons, and Richmond American. He also opened the visitor’s sales center for ITT, the company that developed Palm Coast, Florida.
When the economy changed, he decided to reinvent himself yet again and became a middle school history and geography teacher. This was his favorite and most rewarding career, allowing him to share his passion for history with his students. He impacted many lives in a positive way.
Carl is survived by his wife Lois, his two daughters Alison Kapke and Melissa Terrell, his sister Leisa Gold, his niece Rachael Bagwell and his six grandchildren: Joshua and Alex Kapke, and Jake, Benjamin, Jonathan and Madison Terrell. He repeated this statement many, many times “Family is everything.” He will be greatly missed.
