Carmen L. Ortiz, 81 of Orlando, Florida passed away on Wednesday, March 11, 2015.
She was born on October 22, 1933 in Aguada, Puerto Rico to Susano Santiago and Maria Cajigas who have both preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Jesus Manuel Mestre. Carmen retired from the City of New York Department of Education and the New York Department of Health after more than 28 years of service. She was the recipient of the Best Role Modle Award for New York City that was awarded to her by Mayor Rudy Giuliani. She was a member of St. Isaac Jogues Catholic Church in Orlando. Prior to moving to Orlando, she served on the Parish Council of the Archdiocese of New York where she taught Catechism classes.
Carmen is survived by her daughters, Carmen M. Ortiz Garcia, Myrna L. Ortiz Garcia and Vivian E. Garcia; 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
