Carol Bird Tomkins, born in Orwell, PA Nov 4, 1917 passed away on Feb 20, 2014 at 96 in Orlando, FL. She graduated Slippery Rock College and taught school. She spent WWII in S.Carolina and lived in New Castle, PA, Portland, NY, Marshall and Bryan, TX, and Winter Park, FL.
She had a buoyant personality who played cello and piano and loved music and dancing. A constant letter writer, she corresponded with friends from grade school and her travels. She began exercising at 55 and was kick boxing until 88. Carol was proud to have circled the world 3 times, the last at 88, and to have visited 50 states, 6 continents and many countries.
She was married for 60 years to David E. Tomkins (1916 - 2001). Carol is survived by her 4 sons and their wives: David [Sharon], Austin, TX; Edward (Ted) [Barbara] Beaverton, OR; Dwight [Joanne], Honduras; and Roger [Laura], Orlando, FL. She had twelve grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 1:30PM Feb. 23 in Hope Lutheran Church 2600 N Dean Road in East Orlando.
