DR. CAROL LOUISE DENICOLE
Left the loving arms of her family and went home to be with her Lord on Sunday November 5, 2006. It has been said that "the mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires". Dr. Carol Denicole "Dr. D" was a great teacher of science, of math and of life.
Dr. Denicole was born on November 14, 1934 in Troy New York. After earning her B.S. Degree in The Sciences from the College of St. Rose, she began her life as a teacher of math and science. "Dr. D" started teaching at Trinity Preparatory School in 1971 and quickly became a favorite of the student body. Dr. D was passionate about the space program. Since 1989, she has worked with students in the NASA Student Involvement Program. She was the writer of the critically acclaimed "Launch Box" series of television programs produced by Nickelodeon
Dr. D earned many awards, recognitions and honors. She was awarded honorary doctorate degrees from Kansas City College of Medicine and from the College of St. Rose. Dr. D received more than 60 local, state and national awards. She was inducted in the NASA Hall of Fame; was selected as a candidate for the Teacher-Astronaut Program in 2004; is the recipient of the National Ray Lien Aviation/Aerospace Education; and in 1999 the U.S. Congress honored her with the National Crown Circle Aviation/Aerospace Award. Dr. D was named the Air Force Association Outstanding Teacher of Central Florida six times, and in 1994 received the National Christa McAuliffe Memorial Award.
Dr. D is survived by her loving and devoted husband, retired Lt. Col. Andy Denicole; children Dr. Michael Denicole; Donna Perez and husband Tico Perez; and Deborah Beattie, husband John Beattie and their children John Robert, Jr and Jacqueline Carolann.
An upbeat and colorful Memorial Tribute and Celebration will be held November 14, 2006, 7pm, at Trinity Preparatory School in Winter Park, 407.671.4140.
If Dr. D touched your life, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made payable to either the Community Foundation of Central Florida, and designated for the Carol Denicole Memorial Fund, at 1411 Edgewater Dr., Ste. 203 Orlando FL 32804; or to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network at PanCAN.org. Contributions will be used to carry on the charitable and educational work that Dr. D lived to accomplish.
