Carol Ann Mcwilliams

October 13, 1947 — October 8, 2022

Carol Ann McWilliams, age 74, passed away suddenly October 8, 2022 at Advent Hospital Orlando East. Her death was due to cardiac arrest complications.

She was born in Manhattan, New York on October 13, 1947, to parents Bertram and Adele (Burkofsky) Kramer. She was preceded in death by her brother Richard Kramer.

Carol was survived by her husband of 56 years, James M. McWilliams, three loving children, daughters Shannon L. McWilliams of Corvallis, OR, Cathleen M. Erdmann (Michael) of Viera, FL, and son Sean M. McWilliams (Sarah) of Winter Park, FL, and three grandchildren, Hope E. Milligan, James Q. McWilliams, and Julia M. McWilliams.

Carol retired from the University of Central Florida where she received her master's degree. She served as the assistant director of the SUNLINK project connecting all Florida K-12 library collections. She also served as an adjunct professor at the university and was a pioneer of online teaching at the postgraduate level.

Carol and her husband prided themselves on being "army brats" and loved to travel. Their travels took them from Ankara, Turkey, where they were married, to such faraway places as Alaska, Hawaii, Europe, the South Sea islands, Australia, New Zealand (their favorite), Singapore, Viet Nam, and China.

A devoted lover of dachshunds, she owned several throughout her lifetime. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed cooking with her children and grandchildren (her cassoulet and brownies were famous in the clan). She was an avid reader and an accomplished knitter, donating many knitted caps to chemotherapy patients. She was the acknowledged family historian; her tenacious research and investigative efforts over many years revealed over 2300 relatives in The Kramer-McWilliams family tree. At family gatherings she enjoyed recounting stories alongside her husband (as well as correcting him on the details). She will always be remembered by her family as kind, loving and determined. Her laugh was contagious and strength of character unparalleled.

Carol was an inflammatory breast cancer survivor and spent many years on the board of directors of the Inflammatory Breast Cancer Research Foundation that dedicated itself to the furthering of research toward the cure for this rare form of breast cancer. Carol was instrumental in the creation of their website, and she would have liked any donations in lieu of sympathies or flowers to go to the organization she loved at https://ibcresearch.org/donate .
