Our dear mother, Cecilia Basdeo, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 4, 2023 at the age of 85 surrounded by her loved ones. She was born in Number 2 Village, East Canje Berbice, Guyana to mother Esther Boodhoo.
She is survived by her eight children, Colvin Basdeo, Clarence Basdeo, Sandra Simbudyal, Deborah Sonipersaud, Angella Torres, Desmond Basdeo, Andrea Basdeo, Loretta Vega, 28 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and cousins.
Cecilia is preceded in death by her mother Esther Boodhoo, husband Cecil Basdeo, son Ricky Basdeo, son- in- law Richard Simbudyal, son- in -law Hector Torres and grandson Christopher Basdeo.
She was lovingly referred to as Reddo, or Red Lady by those who knew her. She was a devoted wife and loving mother to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She poured her heart and soul into raising her family and had a profound impact on all those she came into contact with.
Cecilia was the epitome of love, generosity, and sacrifice. Fearlessly strong and powerful, yet so tender and graceful in her ways. She was incredibly creative, and taught herself sewing, crafting and baking while raising her family. In retirement she enjoyed a life of leisure, watching her favorite programs and gardening when she could.
Mothers Never Really Die
Death Beckoned her with outstretched hand
And whispered softly of an 'UNKNOWN LAND'
But she was not afraid to go
For though the path she did not know
She took DEATH'S HAND without a fear.
for He who safely brought her here
Had told her He would lead the way
Into ETERNITY'S BRIGHT DAY...
And so she did not go alone
Into the 'VALLEY THAT'S UNKNOWN'
She gently took DEATH BY THE HAND
And journeyed to 'THE PROMISE LAND'...
And there, with step so light and gay.
She polishes the sun by day
And lights the stars that shine at night
And keeps the moonbeams silvery bright...
For MOTHERS really never die,
They just 'KEEP HOUSE UP IN THE SKY'...
And in the HEAVENLY HOME ABOVE
They wait to 'welcome" those they love.
