Cheryl L. Gleason

October 1, 1968 — February 28, 2019

Cheryl Lynn Whitaker Gleason
In Loving Memory

Cheryl ended an eleven year battle with breast cancer at 7:36pm on February 28th, 2019 in the Cornerstone Hospice Inpatient Unit at Orlando Regional Hospital. She is survived by her five children, three grandchildren, mother, and sisters.

Cheryl was born in Biloxi, MS on October 1st, 1968 to Doris and Jim Whitaker. In high school, she was a five letterman, participating in as many sports as she could. She enjoyed several different successful careers throughout her life, including acupuncture, phlebotomy, and business management until she was finally forced to retire for medical reasons. She has lived in both Tampa and Orlando during her life, and will be dearly missed by many friends and colleagues in both cities.

Although Cheryl is mourned by her many friends, admirers and supporters, she will be most missed by her children and grandchildren. Teresa, 29, Patric, 26, Christa, 23, Kayla, 21, and Matthew, 17 will be holding a memorial service at the Newcomer Funeral Home East Orlando Chapel on Saturday, March 9th at 5pm. All who would like to join in remembering such a remarkable woman are invited to attend. Please contact Doris Whitaker at 407-458-9247 or Teresa Corden at 813-468-2887 for more information to RSVP, send flowers, or find out how to help our family in this trying time.

Cheryl always believed in helping those in need, and was an incredibly giving person, with her time, money, and most importantly her love. Despite her own struggles she always made sure that her children and those she loved most were taken care of and knew how much she loved them. She opened her heart, home and pantry to the kids in her neighborhood, and is an adopted mother to many. Her trademark smile and laugh will be forever etched into the hearts and souls of those lucky enough to have been touched by her. Cheryl never gave up on anyone, including herself. She was and still is a warrior, a testament to what it means to fight such a terrible disease. Her only wish was to see her youngest son graduate high school, one that she will now have to fulfill from heaven.

Cheryl lived by many words, but one of her favorite quotes was by Reinhold Niebuhr:

"Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference."
