On Monday, January 22, 2024, the New York Mets lost one of their greatest fans. Christopher Robert Gribbons was born on August 9, 1974, in Bedford Heights, OH, and at the age of 4, his love of baseball was born when he played on his first baseball team. At age 8, Chris started his collection of baseball cards and memorabilia which grew to legendary proportions. He was also an avid Florida Gators fan.
Chris's love for the Mets was surpassed only by his love for his beautiful Carmen. From the moment they met at Target, Chris and Carmen were completely devoted to each other. They did everything together. In particular, they made it a point to eat every meal together that they possibly could throughout their 26 years together. What an inspiration to family and friends. Chris and Carmen tied the knot on March 6, 2006, and never looked back.
Chris grew up in Cooper City, FL, graduated from Western High School in Davie, FL, and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree before undertaking a successful career in accounting at BNY Mellon Bank in Lake Mary where he was loved and respected by many friends and colleagues.
In addition to his wife Carmen, Chris is survived by his mother, Barbara Schmidt Gribbons; his younger brother, Bryon Gribbons (Nicole) and their 3 children; and his mother-in-law, Altagracia Hierro.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Robert and Jean Schmidt; and his father-in-law, Juan Melendez.
He was also loved and adored by his niece, Albarosa Hierro, and her two boys.
