Lieutenant Colonel Clyde “Gene” O'Baker

August 5, 1940 – March 30, 2025

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Lieutenant Colonel Clyde “Gene” O’Baker, who departed this life on March 30, 2025, at the age of 84. A devoted father, grandfather, and a proud servant of his country, Gene’s legacy is one of dedication and honor.

Born on August 5, 1940, in Cumberland, Maryland, Gene grew up with a deep sense of duty and an unwavering commitment to those around him. From a young age, he dreamed of soaring through the skies as a fighter pilot, a dream he proudly fulfilled by serving in the United States Air Force for 22 years. Rising to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, Gene flew fighter jets and served overseas during the Vietnam War, demonstrating courage and dedication to his country. Throughout his service, he exemplified leadership, integrity, and commitment, earning the respect of his comrades and the gratitude of his nation.

Outside of his military career, Gene was a man of strong principles, kindness, and humility. He approached life with a deep sense of responsibility, always ready to lend a helping hand or share his wisdom with those around him. Whether reminiscing about his time in the skies, encouraging others to chase their dreams, or simply enjoying the company of family and friends, Gene had a way of making every moment meaningful. His presence was a source of strength and inspiration to all who knew him.

Gene is survived by his children Christina, Nolan, and Brett (wife Rachel), and their mother and his close friend Shelley, his grandchildren Daniel, Jade, Kyle, Savannah, and Rowan, his siblings Judy (husband Danny), John (wife Bonnie), and his brother-in-law Mike, husband of his late sister Janet. He is also survived by a host of extended family members, friends, and fellow servicemen who will forever cherish his memory. He is reunited in rest with his parents Clyde and Edith, and his sister Janet.

A service to honor and celebrate Gene’s life will be held on May 9, 2025 at 6pm at The Winter Park Farmers Market. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Central Florida Veterans Memorial Park Foundation in his memory, ensuring his legacy continues to support and honor fellow veterans.

Though he is no longer with us in body, Gene’s spirit, values, and the impact he had on those around him will live on. His was a life well-lived, and his legacy will not be forgotten.

“Rest easy, we've got your six now. Fly high.”
