David Ross Lively

David Ross Lively, born on October 4, 1944 in Tyler, TX, age 80, passed away peacefully on March 29, 2025 in Orlando, FL. He leaves behind a legacy imbued with humor, intellect, and a profound love for family and learning.

David dedicated over 40 years of his professional life in consulting and risk management for Risk Consultants, Inc., where he stood out not only for his work ethic but also for his ability to embrace new technology long before it became the norm. His journey of continuous learning began at Stephen F. Austin University, where he earned his Bachelor's and  Master's Degrees before pursing a Doctorate in Spanish Literature from the University of Kentucky. David’s intellectual curiosity complemented his engaging personality, earning him a reputation as a gifted speaker who could illuminate conversations with wit and thoughtful dialogue.

With a zest for life that was infectious, he thrived on travel, especially relishing trips to Europe, with Spain holding a special place in his heart. Family adventures were a hallmark of his life, with cherished memories made during their visit to the summer Olympics in Atlanta in 1996. Those who knew him well will remember his delightful sense of humor, often characterized by clever puns and the sharing of funny videos that brought smiles to his children’s faces. He will also be remembered for his thrifty nature and drive to find the best deal on everything!

David was married to his beloved wife, Ilia Mesa Lively, on September 11, 1970. Their 43 years together were filled with devotion and companionship, until Ilia's passing on February 28, 2014. The bond they shared was a testament to enduring love, one that has continued to resonate in the hearts of those she left behind.

His greatest pride came from his role as a grandfather, a title he wore with immense joy. He cherished every moment spent with his grandson, Elijah Varner, and granddaughter, Killian Varner. As a devoted father, David leaves behind his daughter, Meredith Lively Varner, and her husband, Jay, as well as his son, Danny Lively. Each of them carries forward the values he instilled, honoring him through the love and laughter that defined their family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ross and Dora Janet (Olsen) Lively, and his wife, Ilia.

David's memory will forever inspire those who knew him. He lived a life dedicated not just to personal success, but to nurturing relationships, sharing knowledge, and embracing the joys of life. As we remember David, let us celebrate the warmth he brought to our lives, ensuring that his spirit continues to shine in the memories we hold dear.
