Dawn Joelle Peterson
1/16/57 – 8/22/08
After years of struggling with her health, Dawn passed away peacefully on August 22, 2008 surrounded by family and friends. She was a loving wife, mother, daughter and friend who will be greatly missed. Dawn was a vibrant and outgoing person who loved her family and friends and had a passion for music, gardening, reading and crafts. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Orlando and she sang in the choir whenever possible. Dawn was born in Watertown, SD on January 16, 1957 to Theodore and Hazel Ahrens. She was raised in Bryant, SD where she attended school and graduated from Hamlin High School in 1975. Dawn married Thomas O. Peterson in 1979 and they went on to have two wonderful sons Joshua and Jeremy. They made there home in Rapid City, Watertown, Brookings and Sioux Falls, SD before moving to Orlando, FL in 1995. Dawn graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1977 as a veterinarian technician and in 1980 she graduated from Rapid City St. Mary's School of Nursing as a registered nurse. Dawn later went on to further her education and received first her bachelor's degree and then her master's degree in nursing from the University of Phoenix in Orlando, FL. Dawn worked as a registered nurse at Arnold Palmer Hospital for Women and Children and later at South Seminole Hospital.
Dawn is survived by her husband Thomas Peterson of Orlando; mother, Hazel Case of Orlando; son, Joshua Peterson and his wife Lindsay of Orlando; step sister Kathleen Hardina of Watertown, S.D.; step brothers, David Case of Seattle, WA, Robert Case of Rapid City, S.D and Steven Case of Minneapolis, MN and her aunt and Godmother, Nellie Ivers of Sioux Falls, S.D. Dawn is proceeded in death by her father Theodore Ahrens, stepfather Ross Case, and son Jeremy R. Peterson.
A viewing will be held Saturday, Aug. 30th from 11:00 AM-1:00 PM at First United Methodist Church of Orlando with the funeral services starting at 1:00 PM. Interment to follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established to the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation in Dawn's honor.
