Delano Davidson Franklin, aka, "Big Frank" was born on August 31, 1941 in Colon, the Republic of Panama to Durant Franklin and Gladys Sandiford. At the age of 18, he met the love of his life, Cecilia Whyte who he soon married. At age 21, he and Cecilia migrated to the United States to provide and create a better life for their growing family. Delano was a very ambitious, determined man who deeply loved life, his children, his family, extended family, compadres, lodge members and plethora of friends.
As an immigrant Delano was able to build a career in Brooklyn, New York at Felton International by working his way from a maintenance worker to the supervisor of the Shipping Department. There he made many life-long friends. In 1977, Delano moved his family to Uniondale, New York where he resided for over 20 years. As a result of his hard work and determination to make it and live the American dream, he was able to own (along with his brother Rodolfo) and operate a local successful business.
ON January 11, 2016, "Big Frank" danced his way into Heaven to join his father, mother, sister, Linda, brother, Rodolfo and his shinning stars, Lisa Renee, daughter and Delano, Jr., son. Before departing he was able to celebrate 54 years of marriage on December 31, 2015. He is survived by his loving wife, Cecilia; his remaining children, Dilicia, Ricardo, Zanika and Kim; his sons-in-law, Peter, Ed, William and Donnell; his pride and joy, 9 grandchildren, DeVaughn, Darnell, Zakiya, Ajani, Omari, Nylejah, DeeJay, Eddie and Nia; his 3 great grandchildren, his sister, Shirley, his brother, Carlos and his mother-in-law, Angelica; nieces, nephews and his ride or die cousin, Shirley Peterson and the countless people whose lives he touched.
