Denis Clancy

March 20, 1938 — December 1, 2021

Denis Clancy, a beloved husband, father, father in law, papa, brother and friend, age 83, of Orlando, Florida died peacefully on Wednesday, 1 December, 2021 with the full rites of The Church and his loving wife, Denise, by his side.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Denise, children, Michelle Clancy, Denis (Stefanie) Clancy and Russell (Kristen) Clancy , grandchildren Will, Emma, Jillian, Louise, Charlotte, Ashlyn, Lily, Andy, Gemma and Campbell, great-grandson Mason, his sister, Mary McAllister and his brother, Lawrence (Andrea) Clancy, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Denis was born in Paisley, Scotland in 1938. He went to St. Mary's primary school, carrying a gas mask to school as it was during WWII, and St. Mirin's Academy. On leaving school he was employed by Rolls Royce as an engineering apprentice, a career he continued until retirement. He was always fixing something. At the age of 21 he emigrated from Scotland to America, by himself, settling near Chicago in Oak Park, Illinois.

Denis married Denise Hogan in 1965 and lived in Oak Park. He worked for Westinghouse, then Siemens Westinghouse as an engineer building power plants. His work took him all over the world, from Libya to Korea to Mexico and across the United States, and he always had a story to tell about an unexpected adventure. His Catholic faith was very important to him and one of the first things he did upon arriving in a new place was to locate the Catholic church. The family settled in Omaha, Nebraska for nearly 20 years and then moved to Orlando, Florida in 1997 where he worked until retirement.

In retirement, Denis enjoyed the Florida weather and always headed to Cocoa Beach and the space coast to watch the NASA space shuttle and rocket launches. He loved taking his grandchildren to the beach to spend time with Gran and Papa. He enjoyed road trips across the US to visit with family and friends, and frequent trips to Scotland.

Taking care of his family was always his priority in life and he was proud of his roots.

He was an honest, respectable, reliable, hard-working family man with a pragmatic approach to life and he will be greatly missed by his family and friends. His illness was endured with great fortitude and strength and he will be at peace now. R.I.P.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, 3rd January, 2022 at 10:00am at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Winter Park, FL.
