Born in Brooklyn, NY on March, 2, 1968, Diane Margaret Calo lit up the lives in her circle from the very start. She passed away on April 21, 2022 in Orlando, FL at age 54.
Diane's magnetic personality could be partially credited to her mother, Mildred Zapata, former president of the Puerto Rican day parade in New York and Orlando, and father, Daniel Calo, military veteran and expert repairman who both preceded her in death.
Her love for music, her wit, charm, breadth of knowledge, and genuine energy was incomparable. A natural show woman, Diane always had big dreams of entertaining the masses and started her performance career at Robinson High School in her beloved Puerto Rico.
She eventually found her niche and calling whilst making her home in Orlando as one of the best Karaoke hosts and most recognizable local celebrities. For nearly 30 years, Diane lived for the applause and love from her friends and supporters. Her features in magazines and newspapers, along with local and national awards and recognition led to hundreds flocking to flip the pages in her songbook to sing their hearts out and to hear her sing night after night. And what a voice she had!
From Cher to Tina Turner to Alicia Keys, Diane's renditions of timeless fan favorites could get people out of their seats or move them to tears. Her love for all things 80's included frequent concerts to see her beloved George Michael, Jon Bon Jovi, Debbie Gibson, Cher and so many others.
Diane was and is loved by so many. Her loves included her family: Yog the pup (named after George Michael); sisters, Mildred Batka and Jeanette Vega; brothers, Albert (Wanda) and Daniel (Cristina) Calo; nephews JP and Rudy Batka, Hamza Abdul, Benicio, Christian, and Sebastian Calo; and niece, Selma Abdul (Shaaf Shoukat).
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Zoraida Calo.
A Memorial Service will be celebrated on Saturday, May 14, 2022 at 3:00 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home, 3806 Howell Branch Rd, Winter Park. The family will receive friends on Saturday preceding the service from 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm at the funeral home.
