Donald Sterling Bowman
September 28, 1940 – December 26, 2022
It is with deepest sadness that we announce that Donald S. Bowman, 82 years old, passed away from this life into eternal life on December 26, 2022.
Don was born in Roanoke, VA on September 28, 1940, to Christine S. Bowman and John Sterling Bowman. Don enlisted in the US Marine Corps from 1961-1965, where he was an aircraft engine mechanic, stationed in Jacksonville, NC. Don was on the aircraft carrier USS Okinawa during the Cuban missile crisis and blockade in October 1962. While serving in the Marine Corps Don obtained his GED. Upon receiving his honorable discharge from the Marines, he returned to Florida and worked for a short while with the Winter Park Fire Department as a firefighter and was also a volunteer firefighter with Maitland Fire Department. In 1967 Don became a Trooper with the Florida Highway Patrol, being assigned to the Florida Turnpike in Broward County. He later transferred to Palm Beach then Alachua counties where he retired in 1999 after serving 32 years. Don also had a passion for flying where he obtained his private pilot's license while living in Gainesville, FL. He was a proud member of the American Legion Post 291 in Steinhatchee, FL.
Don was predeceased by his parents and his beloved wife Beverly (Lineberry) Bowman.
He is survived by his son, Wade Bowman of Ocala, FL; sister Linda Driggers (Darrell), Apopka, FL; brothers Carter Bowman (Jan) Maitland, FL and John Bowman (Carol) Oviedo, FL; stepchildren, Christi Dukes, Bronson, FL, Paula Goddard, Bronson, FL and Michael David Oliver, Alachua, FL; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Don will solely be missed, but for the believer, "to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord." 2 Cor 5:8
Internment with Military Honors will be at Glen Haven Memorial Park, 2300 Temple Dr, Winter Park, FL 3278, January 27, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the American Legion, 220 11th St E SE, Steinhatchee, FL 32359.
