Dorothy J. Bryant

September 9, 1935 — March 20, 2025

Oviedo

On March 20, 2025, Dorothy Jean Bryant, age 89, received her greatest blessing as her heavenly Father welcomed her HOME.

Dorothy was born on September 9, 1935, to Ben and Anna Young in Hamilton, Ohio. She grew up in Hamilton and her senior year of high school began dating a handsome football player named Jim Bryant. Not too long after they graduated, they were married at the age of 18. They would go on to have 3 children, Terry, Debbie and Suzanne.

They attended North Central Bible College to follow the call of God to go into ministry. Following college, they pastored a small church in Barry, Illinois for 2 years. They applied to be missionaries and were approved to go to Upper Volta, West Africa (now called Burkina Faso). There they helped start churches, Bible schools and Dorothy was the field hostess. She was the most incredible cook and housekeeper and loved caring for her family and for guests. Dorothy loved the people of Burkina Faso and loved serving along side her husband in missions.

They left Africa in 1987 after 20 years and were then asked to go to a new area of mission’s work in Central Asia. It was an area that was not open to the gospel, so it was a very difficult place to be, but God performed miracles, and the work flourished. They were in Central Asia for 10 years before retiring.

Dorothy loved the Lord Jesus more than anything! She loved her family fiercely and was the best wife, mother and grandma anyone could ask for. She loved to hum and sing, read, travel, cook, clean, spend time with her family and share the love of Jesus with everyone she could.

She is preceded in death by both of her parents, her husband, Jim, and several siblings. She leaves behind 3 loving children, Terry Bryant, Debbie Lecocq and Suzanne Buchanan. She also leaves behind 7 grandchildren and their spouses,19 great grandchildren, her siblings Delbert (Jo) Young, Arlene (Doug) Brickey and Russell (Jean) Young.

There will be a memorial service at Fairfield Church of the Nazarene in Fairfield, Ohio at 11:00 am on Saturday, April 26, 2025. She will then be buried beside her husband at Greenwood Cemetery in Hamilton, Ohio.
