Dottye Mendoza Cox

May 16, 1931 — January 24, 2015

My Mom is an incredible lady, she ventured away from her hometown at an early age to bigger cities where she worked and gathered new friends. One of those friends became my father on September 10, 1953 in West Haven, CT. They lived there a few years and settled in North Brook, Il where both my bother and I were born. The northwest suburb of Chicago was home until her beloved husband and our father was taken from us in a auto accident on November 9, 1972. Since that time she never faltered in the goal to raise, protect and guide Don and I to the best of her ability and her ability was triumphant. Sometimes her way seemed feisty to some, but that was our Mom, Sister, Aunt, Grandmother, Great Grandmother or friend, Dottye.

Her relentless and unconditional Love for us never skipped a beat, she welcomed our calls or visits no matter when or how far apart they may have been, because there were times that only a mother will do. For all those times I will forever cherish her GUIDANCE, for encouraging me to know my own worth and to have enough faith in myself to leave no room for self-doubt. For WISDOM, for teaching me how to think for myself and make decisions based on what's right rather than what's easy. For GRACE, for showing me how to be humble and recognize that although I am somebody it's not always about me. For HEART, to be a supportive presence in the life of my family as she was to hers. These values and the memories we hold are carved in my soul and will hold true to my heart until we meet again. My Love for you is eternal, you will be dearly missed.

Over the weekend my mother-in-law passed away after an illness she faced with dignity and strength. She has been an
important part of my life for the past 35 years, she was my
second mom. She was a very special woman, so strong in
character, class and incredible spirit. As a young widow, she
was entirely devoted to raising her sons, Larry and Don, with
amazing courage, dedication and steadfast love. We now shed
our tears that she is gone, but can smile because she has filled
our hearts and our lives with love, laughter and memories we
will cherish forever. I can only be so grateful to her that she
gave me the greatest gift - her son.
