DOUGLAS ALLAN BIRD, age 71, of Titusville, passed away peacefully on Friday, 21 July 2006 after a courageous battle with cancer. Doug was born in Orange, New Jersey on 19 August 1934.
Doug served 20 years in the United States Air Force, which included two overseas assignments to Japan and a tour in Thailand during the Vietnam War. While in the Air Force, Doug married Jean Dailey and they had three children. In 1977, after his retirement from the Air Force, Doug moved to Satellite Beach, FL and started working at the Patrick AFB Commissary, until taking a management position in the retail automotive parts business. Doug married Karen Winters in 1983 and they moved to Titusville, FL. He continued to work in the retail automotive parts industry until returning to work full time at the Patrick AFB Commissary.
Doug was a member of the Vietnam Veterans and All Veterans of Brevard County, the Retired Enlisted Association, Air Force Security Police Association and Positive Attitudes of Parrish Medical Center. Through these memberships, work associates and family, Doug has made many close friends and became a positive influence and mentor to many. Doug loved people, life, sports ad cruising.
He is survived by his wife, Karen R. Bird; daughter, Cheryl L. Bellew (& Michael); sons, David A. Bird (& Nancy), Daniel E. Bird (& Kristina), Scott J. Winters (& Cynthia); 12 grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter.
A memorial service will be held at 8:00 pm on Monday, 24 July 2006 at St. Andrew United Methodist Church, 3380 Dairy Road, Titusville, FL with Pastor Rick Walker presiding.
