Durward R. Freer, 84, of Orlando, CWO US ARMY (retired), affectionately known as Skip or Dur, made his final journey on January 8, 2020 at 19:41 hours. This modest and easy going man lived an accomplished life, but he would be the last one to boast, so we will.

Skip attended public school in Kingston, New York.Upon graduation in 1952, he enlisted in the US Army serving in Korea, Germany, Greece, and even some years in the USA. During his military career, he graduated from the University of Maryland and earned a Master's of Education degree from Boston University. He retired in 1978 as a Chief Warrant Officer. Recipient of Army of Occupation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Good Conduct Medal (5th award), Meritorious Service Award among others.

Post active duty, Skip managed tactical decision training programs for the Marine Corp while employed as a project manager at the Naval Air Warfare Center until his retirement in 1997. He devoted over 45 years in service to our country. He was a visionary and had great leadership skills.

Skip was preceded in death by his parents, Durward W. and Elizabeth Freer; brother, Ronald Freer; and daughter, Ann E. Wilson. He was widowed twice, Appolonia (née Rau), and Shirley (née Silcox Martinez).

He is survived by his loving wife, Marilyn "Lynn" (née Von Waldner); sister, Drusilla (Bruce) Gemmill; his sons, Durward J. (Candy), David R. (Michelle), Daniel W., James (Kristine), and David Martinez; daughters, Drusilla Mounkes, Anita (Gary) Black, and Ashley. Beloved stepchildren, George Von Waldner, Joseph (Val) Von Waldner, Patricia (Jeff) Sanders, Joanne Zeigler; 15 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Skip lead by example, a life worth of living. His legacy will live on through his family and those who were fortunate to have known him. He was so loving and loved. He will be missed dearly.

Take God's Hand My Love, R.I.P.
