Earl C. Holtgrefe, 82, of Longwood, Florida passed away on Thursday, April 13, 2017. Earl was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on November 22, 1934 to Anthony and Alice Holtgrefe. He leaves behind three siblings, Bill Holtgrefe, Bob Holtgrefe, and Rosemary Stoner all of Cincinnati, Ohio.
In addition, he is survived by his wife of 56 years, Dorothy Koehler; four children, Jane Reed (Mark) of San Diego, California; Karen Hahn (Joseph) of Clearwater, Florida; James Holtgrefe (Susan) of Erie, Pennsylvania; and Richard Holtgrefe, of Sydney, Australia; nine grandchildren, Laura Reed, Alex Reed, Kelly Reed, Elizabeth Hahn, Michael Hahn, Gretchen Holtgrefe, Walter Holtgrefe, Heidi Holtgrefe, Marcie Holtgrefe.
Upon graduating from The Ohio State University in 1961, Earl moved to Orlando, Florida, to work at the Martin Company. He retired from Lockheed Martin in 1991 after 30 years of service as an electrical engineer.
Earl's fascination with science led him to be an adjunct professor of Physics at Seminole State College for ten years. In addition, he volunteered at the Orlando Science Center where he received an award as Volunteer of the Year in 1998.
Earl's hobbies included building computers, designing websites, flying drones, reading adventure stories, taking cruises with his beloved family, and lots of travel before he became ill with Parkinson's Disease in 2002. He spent his later years enjoying the company of his children and grandchildren who visited often.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 20, 2017, at 11am, at St. Mary Magdalene Roman Catholic Church, Maitland Avenue, Altamonte Springs. A luncheon will follow in the Fellowship Hall.
