Edgar Redding Collins

Edgar R. Collins, 95, of Ft Myers passed away on Sunday, October 9, 2022, at Signature Health Care in Ft Myers FL. Born in Orlando on December 1, 1926, he was the son of the late J.P. Collins and Courtney Collins.

He attended Orange County public schools and was a veteran of the US Navy where he served on the USS Little Rock until the end of WW II. After returning to Orlando, he worked as a roofer before starting his own business. In partnership with his 2 brothers, he started Collins Roofing in Orlando. He retired from the roofing business after over 30 years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years Laura and son Charles.

Left to cherish his memory are sons Roy Collins (Nancy) of Salisbury NC, Earl Collins (Ramona) of Burkesville KY, daughter Laura Burnsed (Jim) of FT. Myers FL, daughter in-law Cathy Collins (Charles) of Forest City NC and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends 10:00-11:00AM Sunday October 23rd at Newcomer Funeral Home. The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00AM in Newcomer Funeral Home chapel. Services will be conducted by grandson Rev. Steve Collins. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Cemetery.
