Edward Jerome Gilliam was born on May 5th 1954 in West Point Georgia to Albert Gilliam Sr. and Lottie Gilliam. He was the third of nine children, with four brothers and four sisters. He was often called by his middle name, Jerome, or by his nickname, "G." He attended Troup County high school and graduated with his diploma in 1973. He then attended Bethune Cookman University (formerly known as Bethune Cookman College) where he obtained his Bachelor's degree in Marketing in 1980. During his time at Bethune, Jerome also met Carolyn Zeigler and they were later married August 1st, 1981. He and his wife had two children, Edward II and Jessica Gilliam. Jerome became an immediate member of the Zeigler family, much more than an in law- he was a son and a brother.
Jerome worked in the sales and marketing field. He spent one year at both JCPenney and Disney World before starting a very rewarding career with the Lipton Tea Company. He received several awards including Professional of the Year and Salesman of the year, multiple times in the late 80s and early 90s. In 1997 he began a career with McKee Foods, known for the infamous Little Debbie snack cakes. His dedication led to a promotion in 2004 where he was chosen as the Divisional Sales Manager in the Brevard County district. The one thing that was never in question through all of Jerome's employment endeavors was his undeniable work ethic.
Jerome loved his sports, particularly football. He was a dedicated Bethune Cookman University football season ticket holder for over 30 years and would tell you himself that football was his favorite hobby. Jerome not only demonstrated how to be a great Husband but also an amazing Father. He was known by all to be a kind and gentle man who would not hesitate to help anyone. Jerome worked very hard and did his best to make sure his family wanted for nothing.
Even though we know he is in a better place we must acknowledge he will be sorely missed.
May you rest in peace.
