Edward Lewis Groh, age 82, passed on to be with his maker on Sunday, May 28, 2017 at Hospice of the Comforter, Altamonte Springs, FL. He was born on June 26, 1934 in Winchester, Kentucky, the son of the late Harry B. Groh and Mildred A. (Hughes) Groh. Ed resided with his loving grandparents, Edward E. and Lily (Myers) Hughes at Alabama Street in Winchester until graduating from Eastern KY University in 1957.
He is survived by his loving wife, Jane Ann (Lockard) Groh; a son, Edward L. Groh II (Julie); step-children, Lezlie Sterchi (Jim), Susan Bode (Baxter), D. Nathan Hoskins (Beth), Valerie Fee, Joe Fee, and Geoff John (Gina); grandchildren, Lewie and Chloe Groh, Madison, Harper, and Baxter Bode, Boone and Dylan Elizabeth Hoskins, Tori Sterchi, Ryan and Olivia Fee, Devan Brennan, and Sydney and Trinity John.
Mr. Groh was a graduate of Winchester High in 1952 where he played and lettered in basketball, football, and track. Ed attended Eastern Kentucky University (B.S. 1956, M.A. 1957). He had additional studies at Miami of Ohio, St. Xavier, Wright State, and U.C. Ohio. Ed was a member of the First Christian Church, Winchester, KY.
He was a successful educator and coach at Russelville, OH (1957-1962), Jackson Township, Prebble County, OH (1962-1965), and West Carrollton (1965-1967), before becoming the principal in the Kings Local District, Warren County, OH, serving for 29 years. For 16 of those years, he was the principal at Kings Elementary and Middle School, then J.F. Burns Elementary School for 13 years before retiring in 1997.
Ed was a member of the USAF Reserve Unit in Wilmington, OH for 6 years (1958-1964).
Ed and his wife, Jane, resided in Maitland, FL and spent their summers in Maineville, OH.
Military graveside services will be held on June 26, 2017 at 11:00 AM at the Gates of Heaven Memorial Gardens, 1100 Montgomery Rd., Cincinnati, OH 45249, followed by a celebration of life service at the J.F. Burns Elementary School, 8471 Columbia Rd., Maineville, OH 45039, from 12:00 - 2:30 PM, Reverend Fred Shaw officiating.
