E. Lindsay (Linny) Brown, III, age 85, formerly of Charleston, Missouri, died Wednesday, May 15, 2024 at his home in Lake Mary, Florida.
Born July 19, 1938, in Cairo, Illinois to the late E. Lindsay Brown, Jr. and Thelma Hunter Brown, he was a graduate of Charleston High School. He graduated Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee in 1960. He was a lifelong member of the Charleston United Methodist Church. He served in the United States Air Force reserves until 1967.
On July 1, 1961 he married Marilyn Reed who preceded him in death on July 23, 2016.
After college Linny returned to Charleston to join the family farming business. He was an avid sports fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and the Missouri Tigers and coached little league baseball and junior high basketball for many years. He took special pride in helping the University of Missouri recruit Charleston athletes. He enjoyed golfing with his friends at the Charleston Country Club and in Central Florida.
He served on the Board of Directors of Citizens Bank of Charleston for many years and served on the Heron Cove Homeowners Association Board.
He is survived by his children Bethany Brown of Lake Mary, FL, Pamela Brown Smith and her husband Mickey of Nashville, TN, Gregory Brent Brown of Sanford, FL, and Randy Brown of Greenville, SC; his grandchildren, Lindsay Smith Amick and her husband Matt Amick, Russell Smith, and Laura Reed Smith all of Nashville, TN, and his great grandson, Miles Thomas Amick. He leaves behind his beloved dog Sissy.
A Private Service will be held at Heron Cove neighborhood and other friends of the family gathering to honor Linny’s life.
